Gabriel

Gabriel Salazar Vergara was born on January 31, 1936. Vergara is Chilean historiography. He is recognized in his nation for his research into sociology and its interpretation of popular movements, including the student protests that took place in 2006 and 2011-12. Salazar was raised by an economically poor family. He pursued a degree in the fields of sociology, history, and philosophy as a student at Universidad de Chile. He was also an assistant for Mario Gongora, a classical historian, and Hector Herrera Cajas, a historian. 1 Salazar used to be associated with the Revolutionary Left Movement until 1973. Two years later, the group was assaulted in Villa Grimaldi by the military. After his release from the military prison camp in England, he fled the country. He was awarded a scholarship to continue his studies at the University of Hull. From that university, he was awarded an PhD degree in Economic and Social History in 1984. In the following year, he returned Chile. Relatively unknown Salazar's breakthrough came in the year 1985. His research subjects have included peons, labourers, children huachos[A] and women. 1. Salazar is one of the pioneers of the historiographic movement known by the name of Nueva Historia Social. Salazar considers history to be the most effective instrument to guide the social sphere.
